Department of Animal Husbandry Leh lunched one household one cow scheme in the rural Area of Leh District.
Aim of the scheme
Empowering Sustainable livelihood by bolstering the Dairy Sector and fostering financial independence among the rural sector of leh district
Key Features and Merits of the Scheme:
- 90% Subsidy on Cow Procurement: Each eligible household will receive a cow with 90% of the cost subsidized by the government.
- Boost to Rural Economy: Regular milk production will provide a consistent source of income, promoting self-sufficiency in rural households.
- Nutritional Security: Availability of fresh milk at the household level will improve the nutritional status of families, especially children.
- Women Empowerment: The scheme will benefit women directly by engaging them in livestock care and dairy production, encouraging economic participation.
- Employment Generation: The initiative will create indirect employment opportunities such as fodder supply, veterinary care, and milk collection logistics.
- Organic Farming Integration: Cow dung and urine can be used in organic composting, promoting eco-friendly farming practices.
This scheme is expected to play a vital role in transforming rural livelihoods in Leh by integrating animal husbandry with economic empowerment and food security.
